THE TIBETAN BOOK OF THE DEAD Padmasambhava
It is a strange and fascinating book that comes to us today more than thirteen centuries after it was composed by the great saint and mystic Indian Padmasambhava who brought Buddhism to Tibet in the eighth century, and its discovery in the fourteenth century by Karma Lingpa the yogi.
The "Bardo Thödröl Chenmo", better known in the West under the title "The Tibetan Book of the Dead" is finally made available in French translation by Philippe Cornu, teacher INALCO (Language Y) and author of several books on Buddhism, including in particular the "Encyclopedic Dictionary of Buddhism." The advantage of this translation is not only to provide for the first time in French all the texts that make up the Bardo Thödröl, but also through the preface Mathieux Ricard and explanations of Philippe Cornu, to put this item in the heart of his true spiritual perception, that is his relationship with former Tantra and Dzogchen. The book abounds in fact key to understanding the complex aspects of the design philosophy and practice of Tibetan Buddhism. The general introduction and the introductions that precede each chapter are particularly illuminating for both beginners who want to discover this fundamental work and for practitioners of Tantra and Dzogchen.
"The Book of Tibetan dead "is a series of lessons on what might be called the in-between, or intervals that punctuate our existence, our birth states post mortal. According to the design of Vajrayana Buddhism, existence is divided into a series of periods that offer opportunities to escape the sufferings of samsara and advance on the path to liberation. After physical death and the dissolution of the basic elements, begins another journey to the continuum of experiences that constitute our consciousness. This flow of experiences formed from our karma then goes through several steps the Bardo Thödröl described in great detail. The fundamental clear light emerges in the consciousness of the deceased followed by the sounds, lights and shelves, then the visions of peaceful and wrathful deities. This is the bardo of reality. Although these deities represent only the appearance of calm and movement of the mind, their deployment is for individuals who do it are trained in their lifetime experience terrifying and tragic.
